'I said no and ended the call': School principal demands mom work for free to help with school play, she refuses, principal blames her for production failure

It comes to no one's surprise that schools care much more about the sports programs than the arts. For some reason, it is assumed that the arts are not as important for kids' education as doing sports, and so the art programs get much less budget and attention in an unfortunate amount of schools.

The situation is no different in the school from this Reddit story, and the main problem might be with the school's principal. OP (original poster) is a mom who got a call from a school principal asking her to help with the school's production of Grease. The mom, whose kid doesn't even go to that school anymore, told the principal her rates and was surprised to learn that the principal was expecting her to do it for free, as a donation to the school.

    but we still ended up paying close to $8,000 a year by the time we bought uniforms and paid for all the extra curricula activities. The overall wealth and entitlement of some of the families was obscene. Glad she's out of there now.

We were stretching to pay their tuition as it was when we were "invited" in to the Head and told they expected essentially a “donation” equivalent to 30% of the tuition. I didnt laugh at them, but we nodded, said "no" and left. They didnt bring it up again.

    they called back and offered a full scholarship. Daughter really wanted to go, so we said yes. It was good for her, as it allowed her to pursue both her sport and academic goals. She got into the uni course she wanted AND represented the state one of her sports, but the whole thing just felt really....icky. SO much wasted wealth and resources. The rich really do live a different life.
